Please join us on Wednesday, October 25 for our 10th COEN Community of Practice meeting. These meetings are informal, with a specific topic, facilitator, and practice-building purpose to guide discussion. They are intended to let you share with and learn from your colleagues and grow in the profession.

From 5:30 to 6:00 we will gather, introduce ourselves, and get coffee or dinner at the counter if you wish.

At 6:00 we'll start our informal program: Health Program Evaluation - a discussion of program evaluation in medical and behavioral health settings.

With medical costs comprising nearly 20% of GDP in the United States, and millions struggling to acquire and pay for medical insurance, evaluation of health programs is a timely and relevant topic. Focus questions include:

  • What kinds of medical programs can and should be evaluated?
  • Why should we evaluate them, and how can we do it fairly and effectively?
  • What methodologies lend themselves best to studying health programs?
  • What kind of challenges face us as evaluators, in light of advances in technology, big data analytics, and the increasing complexity of consumer, funder, and stakeholder priorities?

Please bring your questions and insights to share from your own evaluation experience. Also bring a colleague!

Neil Krohn is a Senior Health Services Consultant at Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield. He earned his PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of Tulsa, and completed a post-doctoral fellowship in Administration and Evaluation Psychology at the University of Colorado Denver. He has evaluated medical and psychiatric programs in university, public mental health, non-profit, and corporate settings over the last 17 years.
