COEN's May Community of Practice Meeting
Thursday, May 31st, 5:30-7:30 PM
Panera Bread, 640 S. Colorado Blvd
Topic: Museum Evaluation in the 21st Century
Facilitators: Laureen Trainer (Evaluation Coach and Principal of Trainer Evaluation) and Ellen Roth (Manager of Visitor Research and Program Evaluation at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science)
These meetings are informal, with a specific topic, facilitator, and practice-building purpose to guide discussion. They are intended to let you share with and learn from your colleagues and grow in the profession.
From 5:30 to 6:00 we will gather, introduce ourselves, and get coffee or dinner at the counter if you wish.
At 6:00 we'll start our program: Museum Evaluation in the 21st Century - How museums can use evaluation to stay relevant
Museums, historically (and not-so-historically), have been founded, staffed, and patronized why a white, wealthy elite. They also have, historically (and not-so-historically), believed themselves to be the holders and disseminators of knowledge and culture. Not surprising, based on this history, museums have struggled to stay relevant in their communities in the 21st Century. Operating under the assumption that museums are for everyone, how can evaluation shift this paradigm and help create an inclusive culture? How can museums engage in culturally relevant evaluation? How can evaluation departments and consultants help museums give up ownership and push the boundaries of community engagement?
This session is for all experience levels and all evaluators - not just those who work with museums! Please bring your questions and insights to share from your own evaluation experience. Also bring a colleague!
We'll be mixing it up in terms of venues and types of Community of Practice events, so keep an eye on our announcements. Would you like to facilitate a future meeting? Reach out to us with your idea at Colo.Eval.Network@gmail.com and let's chat.
