COEN's September Community of Practice Meeting
Wednesday, September 26th, 5:30-7:30 PM
CDPHE, Building A, Sabin Room (first floor);
4300 Cherry Creek South Drive, Denver, CO 80206
Topic: Evaluation in Libraries
Facilitator: Linda Hofschire (Director) and Katie Fox (Research Analyst) of the Library Research Service (LRS), Colorado State Library
These meetings are informal, with a specific topic, facilitator, and practice-building purpose to guide discussion. They are intended to let you share with and learn from your colleagues and grow in the profession.
From 5:30 to 6:00 we will gather and introduce ourselves.
At 6:00 we'll start our program: Evaluation in Libraries
Libraries are catching up in the world of evaluation. At LRS, we evaluate library services and provide statistics and data analysis tools for libraries in Colorado and beyond. One of our primary evaluation challenges is determining how to train and support library staff in using data effectively. We’ve address this challenge by creating the Research Institute for Public Libraries (RIPL), a national, immersive training opportunity for public librarians to learn about the evaluation process. We also consult with Colorado librarians on projects to help them evaluate programs and show the value of libraries. For example, we recently completed a major project with the Denver Public Library to gather data about social emotional learning by conducting observations of school-age participants during a library program. We’d like to talk about these efforts, and hear from you about the professional development opportunities in your area of work.
This session is appropriate for everyone! Please bring your questions and insights to share from your own evaluation experience. Also bring a colleague!
We'll be mixing it up in terms of venues and types of Community of Practice events, so keep an eye on our announcements. Would you like to facilitate a future meeting? Reach out to us with your idea at Colo.Eval.Network@gmail.com and let's chat.
