This talk is intended for those interested in learning more about Human-Centered Design and its relationship with Evaluation. In many ways, evaluation and design are two halves of the same whole. They function in a constant partnership with design unable to happen without evaluation present. This talk will introduce a high-level overview of design thinking and process, and highlight where evaluation overlaps. This will be an interactive, open discussion and we want to hear everyone’s perspective and thoughts as we contemplate design and how to discover it in our own everyday work.

Intended audience: This may be new to field/early career, 5-10 years experience, seasoned evaluators, all levels of experience.

About the presenter: Katie Tirtanadi, MSIS, MHA, MNPL is a Design Methodologist and Systems Engineer with the VA’s Seattle-Denver Center of Innovation. She has been working in healthcare for 18+ years with a specialization in organizational and complex systems. Since starting her position with VA, she’s helped to build new telehealth programs, provide current state and business analysis within ongoing evaluations, and spearhead an effort to redesign virtual work in a hybrid environment. Her projects generally focus on process improvement and the development of new service lines. While Katie has professional interests in the communication and collaborative space of health-centric efforts, she has also completed projects outside of the heath sector related to HR, peer matching and organizational strategy. Her work bridges the practical philosophy of human-centered design with research and evaluation. In her time off she enjoys traveling the globe, renovating old spaces and getting lost in fantastical books.
