About the Session: What key principles of design and data viz do you need to know to create effective and clear graphs? This talk will cover preattentive attributes, Gestalt principles, and principles of color use. It will provide the key concepts from design and data viz research that you need to know to communicate data effectively. The talk will include examples to demonstrate applying the concepts and comparing data viz effectiveness.

About the Presenter: Jenn Schilling loves data! Over the past 10 years, she’s worked with data as a statistician, engineer, and analyst in a number of fields. Jenn also has experience as a middle school teacher and adjunct faculty member. She founded Schilling Data Studio to share her knowledge of data visualization design, analyzing data, and R so more people can build skills in data analysis and visualization.
